Lodge-y Ornaments: Yarn Balls


This year we’ve decided on a “Lodge” theme for our Christmas Decor. We like the idea of a traditional, woodsie, outdoors-ish cozy feel especially set against the beautiful Colorado backdrop! My pinterest boards are exploding with ideas. This week we started in on some of the ornaments.

Yarn Balls (from here).


Brown Paint
Paint Brush/Sponge
Tape/glue dots
Styrofoam balls

Basically we stabbed the foam balls with kabob skewers and painted them (if they showed through).



First Coat:


Second Coat:


Conveniently these Styrofoam balls came with a hole at one end, we stuffed the yarn into to get the yarn rolling. Forgot to take photos of this but it’s pretty self-explanatory 🙂

Then just wrap and wrap the yarn until it looks however you’d like (or your stash runs out). To finish them off we tied a loop for hanging them from our tree:
