I need to begin by saying this movie chain holds a special place in my heart. Jake and Resident Evil go waaaaay back. In 2010 when the 4th movie installment released we spent a week watching the trilogy. The Friday it was released we took the day off because I declared it “I Love Jake” day, we got pedicures–he may or may not deny that event, then we hit the theater to see Resident Evil: Afterlife in 3-D with popcorn and sodas, and finished the day with a delicious dinner and ice cream. Nope, it wasn’t a holiday or any special day; just a normal ho-hum Friday, cause that’s how we ‘celebrate life enthusiastically’. I’m hearing a chorus of “Awwwwww”s.
That said we caught a 3-D matinée this weekend and it was …disappointing. The action was okay, zombies were only seen in a few scenes, creepy flower face guys–sure but nothing new, the weapons/brains flying at us in 3-D…always entertaining. One redeeming quality was the intro/recap scene, it. was. PHENOMENAL! whichever production/effects company did that knocked my socks off.
Synopsis from here:
The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, ALICE (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by new-found allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion.
And it wouldn’t be a movie review without a trailer:
